This happened after multiple pictures and videos from her at Sawan prayers went viral on social media, pulling in massive outrage from the public. On Thursday, July 30, Bhumi Pednekar took to her Instagram and shared pictures of herself offering prayers at a Shivling. She was seen wearing a calms top with some denim jeans along with some balck sunglasses. In the video shared by her, she could be seen offering water to the Shivling. While many praised her for following the holy month of Savan, others called out the actor for wearing sunglasses while praying. Soon after, her comment section was flooded with people asking if wearing sunglasses was appropriate for religious rituals. Users called her out for showing off her “fashion” even while offering prayers. They also asked her to “show some respect” in front of the gods.
These videos and pictures of Bhumi Pednekar have divided the internet between those defending her personal choices while others arguing that it was a disrespect to the gods and that there must be some traditional customs inside temples. The comment section soon turned into a battle ground with many stating that people were focusing on the wrong thing and that wearing sunglasses was does not equate to a person’s faith or their feelings.
