Bhumi Pednekar entered the industry in 2015, and has gone on to play many versatile characters in films so far. Apart from her cinematic presence, Bhumi’s social media presence also demands attention. From playing a lesbian in Badhaai Do to portraying the shooter Chandro Dadi in Saand Ki Aankh. In a career spanning eight years, Bhumi Pednekar has impressed critics and audiences with her role choices and also won well-deserved awards for her performances. So, on her 34th birthday, I ranked her five best performances wherein I thought she outdid herself.
5. Bheed (2023)
Bhumi Pednekar played the role of a doctor in this Anubhav Sinha directorial. Her character Renu Sharma was portrayed with such sensitivity and responsibility that it made people realise the plight of the doctors who were fighting the COVID-19 battle on the frontline.
4. Bala (2019)
A film that talked about racism and how society mocks one’s baldness, I found Bhumi’s role more hard-hitting than Ayushmann Khurrana’s in this one. The film’s take on how people easily judge someone on the basis of their skin colour was a message our society desperately needs to learn.
3. Saand Ki Aankh (2019)
This biographical film shed light on the lives of the real-life sharpshooters Prakash and Chandro Tomar. Bhumi played the latter and did a great job of imitating the UP accent along with playing an older woman who was determined to break society’s stereotypes.
2. Lust Stories (2018)
Bhumi Pednekar’s role as Sudha, a maid, in this anthology series was truly impressive. The heartbreak she goes through when she realises that the house owner she has been having sex with is not going to marry her is evident on her face. This was a role I did not imagine Bhumi in, and well, she nailed it!

1. Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015)
Bhumi Pednekar picked a unique film for her debut that she was sure people would talk about for years to come. Bhumi’s portrayal of Sandhya summarised how all plus-sized are treated in Indian society and also how they are expected to be okay with this misbehaviour.
So, which of these roles is your favourite?
