Exclusive: Bhagyashree On Feminism: “Many Women Misunderstand The Concept As…”

Everyone has a different point of view on feminism, and the views are often shaped by their personal experiences and beliefs. For some, feminism is about equality and ensuring that women have the same opportunities as men. Others may see it as a movement. Talking about her definition of feminism was Maine Pyar Kiya actress Bhagyashree in the recent episode of The Male Feminist with host Siddhaarth Aalambayan.

Bhagyashree On Feminism

In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Bhagyashree  shared her take on feminism and how it has often been twisted by people. “Many women misunderstand the concept of feminism as something else. I don’t blame only the men. I blame even the women. When you say that patriarchy has been going on for a long time and we want to rebel. So, there have been these whole bra-burning women that go around. And they say, We’ll wear what we like; we’ll talk how we want. But how is that equality? I just say, How is that equality? You can abuse, wear less clothes, misbehave or get drunk. Why? Because male counterparts do that. That doesn’t make you a feminist.”

“So, I want to tell those people that equality is about giving women and men equal opportunities in their lives. To accomplish their dreams, their aspirations. To study, nurture and create a life. I feel that this has been lost in the bargain. There are certain qualities that God has given naturally to women. She’s a caregiver; she’s more nurturing; she’s more sensitive. She’s also able to take a lot more than a man. A man is bigger built, probably with more muscles because of his structure. He becomes the protector in the physical sense of it.” In the end, she added, “With such qualities, women and men need to walk with each other and not compete.”
