BLACKPINK Dragged Into Bekuh Boom Controversy, And Some Fans Think HYBE Is Somehow Involved
A viral TikTok, serious allegations, and fan-led theories have sparked a full-blown K-pop controversy.
American songwriter Bekuh BOOM, known for composing some of BLACKPINK’s most well-known tracks has seemingly implied mistreatment by a big K-pop label. Amid the controversy, she implied that the quartet was aware of the way she suffered but did not intervene. Bekuh’s TikTok reveals have gone viral, as have the comments. Here’s why fans believe this may have something to do with HYBE.
Songwriter Bekuh BOOM Hints That BLACKPINK Knew Of Mistreatment, Netizens Question Possible HYBE Link
In the early days of February, Bekuh dropped a TikTok video on her official account recounting the horror tales she underwent while working at an unnamed K-pop company. While she did not specify which one it was, most BLINKs were aware of her long-standing relation with BLACKPINK. She helped write ‘Kill This Love’, ‘Pretty Savage’, ‘Boombayah’, ‘Whistle’, and even ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’. This means that the label in question was likely YG Entertainment which created the group back in 2016.
Bekuh Boom (real name: Rebecca Rose Johnson) has since been very actively responding to comments about her admission. A netizen asked if she could now work with the BLACKPINK foursome without YG’s interference, she responded in the negative. Claiming that no one wanted to help her out with her dues, she said that they were “all in on it.” This sparked widespread outrage on the internet.
However, fans of the girl group find the timing of her mistreatment disclosure slightly suspect. Bekuh has recently started writing music for ILLIT, which is represented by HYBE. The corporation has seen its fair share of controversy recently, with regards to Heeseung’s sudden exit from ENHYPEN.

A conspiracy theory that the label wants to distract the media from its chairman currently being investigated is gaining traction. Therefore, Bekuh Boom’s sudden reveals have been viewed with distrust. Considering that the American songwriter now works with HYBE, the chronology of events does seem convenient.

The songwriter’s allegations included physical and mental abuse, forced abortion, and underpayment of bills. If there is truth to them, they need to be taken seriously. On the flip-side, if Bekuh is found to be serving another purpose, falsifying claims makes one lose trust in people calling out real abuse.
