HYBE Chairman Bang Si Hyuk Faces Second Round Of Police Questioning In Insider Trading Probe
The chairman has also been banned from leaving the country while the investigation is ongoing.
K-pop giant HYBE’s founder and chairman, Bang Si Hyuk, has been making headlines for his alleged involvement in a financial scam. The chairman, who is the mastermind behind groups like BTS and TXT, has been alleged to have participated in unfair share trading. South Korean authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into this matter, and the new development in the probe is that the HYBE chairman recently underwent a second round of questioning in connection with allegations of financial misconduct. HYBE Chairman Summoned For Second Round Of Questioning By Police
On November 5, HYBE’s chairman, Bang Si Hyuk, appeared before the Financial Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in Mapo District. Bang was called for a second round of questioning earlier in the morning. According to reports by Korean media, the HYBE founder has been accused of misleading shareholders in 2019 by claiming that the company had no plans to go public. However, at the same time, Bang Si Hyuk allegedly arranged for a private equity fund linked to him to acquire shares from investors.
The investigators are currently looking into whether the chairman unfairly profited from this move. The profits generated from Bang’s alleged insider trading through a private equity fund after the company’s IPO are estimated to be around 190 billion won (approximately 1,181 crore rupees)
To understand more about the situation, under South Korea’s Capital Markets Act, it is illegal to obtain property gains through deception or to exploit fraudulent schemes involving unlisted shares or securities. Hence, Bang Si Hyuk has been accused of potential violations of the Capital Markets Act.
The chairman’s representatives and HYBE, however, maintain that all procedures were conducted in compliance with the country’s rules and regulations at the time of HYBE’s public listing. The police have not released a statement following Bang Si Hyuk’s second questioning till now.
