BAFTA Awards 2026 was quite special for the Indians, and there are multiple reasons for that. One of them is Lakshmipriya Devi’s film Boong winning big at the award ceremony. Backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, the film won in the Best Children And Family Film category. It’s definitely a moment of pride for us all as this is the first time an Indian film has won at the BAFTA Awards. Read on for more.

Manipuri Film Boong Wins Big!

Lakshmipriya Devi’s Boong is a Manipuri film that won in the Best Children And Family Film category at the BAFTA Awards 2026. It was competing against films like Zootopia 2, Arco and Lilo & Stitch. This is first time for an Indian film to win at the BAFTAs. The ceremony was attended by Lakshmipriya Devi, producer Farhan Akhtar and co-producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Alan McAlex. The film stars Gugun Kipgen and Bala Hijam. Also this was the only film from India that received nominations at the BAFTA Awards.

Farhan Akhtar also expressed pride in the win and post the win, he also spoke about the film. As per an interview to ANI the filmmaker and actor said that he had known Lakshmipriya Devi for the last 20 years, and that her film a heartwarming story. Farhan Akhtar also acknowledged that viewers rarely get to see films from that particular region.

For the unversed, Alia Bhatt was also one of the presenters at BAFTA Awards 2026. The actor addressed the attendees with a ‘Namaskar’ and it has won hearts on the internet. She looked divine in a silver gown.
