Bada Naam Karenge Review: 5 Thoughts We Have About Sooraj Barjatya’s Show Starring Ayesha Kaduskar, Ritik Ghanshani!
hauterrfly Rating: 3 / 5

Remember those heartwarming family films we all miss, like Hum Saath Saath Hain and Vivah? Well, Bada Naam Karenge brings back that feeling, as its showrunner is none other than Sooraj Barjatya. The series is set in Ratlam and Ujjain and follows a sweet story about a Genz couple’s love story and family issues. The story centres around Rishabh Rathi (Ritik Ghanshani), who comes from a rich family in Ratlam. He and Surbhi (Ayesha Kaduskar) meet during a traditional arranged marriage meeting, along with their families. But here’s the twist: they already know each other, and no one knows that!

Sounds interesting, right? Well, during the first COVID lockdown. Surbhi got stuck at Rishabh’s house, and they grew close. But their love story isn’t as smooth as butter. Rishabh’s family is very conservative, so just imagine finding out that he lived with a girl for a few days. It is as crazy as it sounds. Will Rishabh and Surbhi follow their hearts? Not providing any spoilers, but we can provide a detailed breakdown.  Here are five thoughts we had after watching this series.

Thoughts On Bada Naam Karenge

Melodramatic

It definitely has the dramatic feel of a classic Sooraj Barjatya film like Vivah, so you can expect some emotional moments. Well, the show’s melodramatic style is similar to Barjatya’s signature filmmaking. You can witness heightened emotions, potentially including tearful scenes, dramatic confrontations, and sentimental moments.

Comedic Trope

The jokes and one-liners feel old and recycled. The show relies on cheesy and overused comedic tropes rather than fresh, original material. Instead of clever wit or situational comedy, the jokes likely fall flat because they’ve been heard too many times before.

Family Friendly And Length

It’s a good, clean show the whole family can watch together. It is wholesome and definitely family-friendly content. The story drags in places very often. Let’s talk about pace. I felt the narrative was unnecessarily stretched out. The latter part of the show is extremely slow and makes it less engaging. It feels like they could have made it tighter. By removing unnecessary scenes, it would have been a more concise and nice viewing experience.

Core Subject

The show is only partially about the core subject matter, and it could have focused more. Instead of creating a massive impact, it explores various subplots or side narratives, which dilute the focus and potentially weaken the overall impact. Moreover, the songs aren’t particularly memorable. The lead actors have cute chemistry, which helps. There are a lot of predictable scenes; nothing really surprising.

Visual And Performance

The cinematography of this series is a definite highlight. It captured the difference between traditional Ratlam and modern Mumbai well. The lead actors share cute chemistry, and their moments surely are heart-fluttering! Overall, it has some good qualities, like its focus on family and its sweet lead actors. However, it’s brought down by its length, predictable plot, and some weak writing in places. It has a mix of good and not-so-good elements. The series features Ritik Ghanshani, Ayesha Kaduskar, Kanwaljeet Singh, and others, and it is available on SonyLiv.
