Baaghi 4 Review: Even Tiger Shroff’s Effortless Action Hero Can’t Save Us From The Torture That This Film Is!
hauterrfly Rating: 1.5 / 5

Where and with what should I start from? A Harsha’s directorial Baaghi 4, starring Tiger Shroff, Sanjay Dutt, Harnaaz Sandhu, Sonam Bajwa, and Shreyas Talpade, has given us so many genres to talk about just in a single 2Hr 43 minutes film that the mind is all over the place! Backed by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film is a high-octane action drama with romance, all this, but the film forgets to focus on the plot, and well, of course, logic! So read our quick review for more clarity!

Plot

Ronny a Navy Officer (Tiger Shroff) loses his memory after a terrible accident, but only remembers a woman named Alisha (Harnaaz Sandhu). However, the first twist happens when Ronny, and we are made to believe that the girl does not exist in reality, and Ronny is only hallucinating. As the story unfolds, Ronny uncovers the real truth behind it which leads him to Chako (Sanjay Dutt), the villain. Shreyas Talpade plays the character of Ronny’s brother and Sonam Bajwa is the second female lead, who too falls in love with Ronny! In between this plot, there are a number of songs and action sequences.

What’s Good?

Oh boy! It’s so difficult to pick good points in this film. Tiger Shroff, as the action hero is back on the big screen, and it’s evident that the actor has given it all to this one. In action sequences, Tiger is effortless and shines for the most part, in emotional bits, he is convincing too. But blame it on the writing because we are made to feel nothing!

Harnaaz Sandhu and Sonam Bajwa have done a pretty good job with whatever little they had with their characters, despite getting a good screen time in the film.

A few action set pieces looked good, but one needs to keep a lot of patience to see through these points which brings me to my next bit, what’s bad?

Story!

Baaghi 4 has no substantial plot whatsoever, and even if there was an attempt to build a plot, it’s ruined by the storytelling, multiple songs, and over the top actions. But there are more elements that add up to it. The film has many slow motion moments, especially in the first half when most of the romantic scenes happen. There is no relation of one scene and another. The concept of time and concept are flung out of the window, and it’s hard to understand where is scene or moment actually taking place. It’s so abrupt! The overdose of twist coming at us like a TV serial was hard to digest.

Action!

Not that I don’t enjoy action on the big screen, but not this kind. It’s to gruesome, gore and backed with no substantial context. The action scenes are sandwiched in between because the plot seemed to have lost its ground. Sanjay Dutt’s Chako is the most stereotypical villain we have seen in the longest time. He laughs like a devil for no reason, is almost always covered in blood and these elements just make it look like the character is trying too hard to intimidate us.

The film is nothing out of the box in terms of story, narration, cinematography, and or more! It feels like a three-hour long action drama which is hollow at its core but somehow trying to convince us that it will go somewhere.

Verdict

Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi is exactly what the trailer promised to us. It’s high on testosterone, male gaze through the dance numbers, and even romantic tracks, too many unnecessary complications, drama, but no depth. There is no emotional connectivity with the audience, and the film does not strive to do so even. Tiger Shroff is seen pulling off a lot of action in the film, and some of those bits are enjoyable. Baaghi 4 is currently running in theatres.
