Recently, the teaser for Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s highly anticipated Thama was dropped and with that, the buzz for the movie increased. The horror-comedy’s thrilling visuals and the blend of romance and supernatural elements have fans counting days for its release. However, K-drama fans noticed a similarity between Thama and My Demon, featuring Song Kang and Kim Yoo-jung. This led to a heated online debate about whether the movie copied the K-drama or simply drew inspiration. Read on to know all about it.
Is Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna’s Thama Inspired By My Demon?
The discussion began when a social media user posted side-by-side images from Thama and My Demon. In Thama, Rashmika Mandanna’s character is seen gripping Ayushmann Khurrana’s arm as he dangles from a rooftop. In My Demon, Song Kang’s character holds Kim Yoo-jung in a similar moment.
The post spread like wildfire online, with some fans calling Thama a direct copy of the K-drama. One user wrote, “Maddock copy aur collection fraud me ustad hai.”
Whereas, others joked that both scenes feature a hero and heroine, so it must be a copy. Meanwhile, defenders of Thama stated that the inspiration is common in filmmaking. One user wrote, “U will find hundreds of more similar trivial scenes like this if u actually try.”
Thama is a romantic comedy with a supernatural twist and is a mix of humour, love, and mythology. Ayushmann plays Alok, and Rashmika plays the character of Tadaka. My Demon is a fantasy romance between a demon and a wealthy heiress.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Thama is said to be released around Diwali 2025.
Fans are now waiting to see if Thama delivers a fresh story or leans too heavily on familiar tropes.
