Exclusive: Avneet Kaur: “Many People Judged My Parents For Making Me Work”
Despite the constant criticism, Avneet Kaur expressed deep gratitude for her parents' unwavering support.

The decision to allow a child to pursue a career in the arts is often met with harsh judgement and skepticism. Parents who support their children’s artistic ambitions frequently face criticism, with people questioning their parenting choices and expressing disapproval. Talking about the same was actor Avneet Kaur in a recent interview with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan.

“I have heard a lot about it since childhood,” Avneet shared. “In fact, when it started, they had just said, ‘Look, these people are making their daughter work; why should a girl do all this? You should have kept her here, got her married here, and sent her away. What is the need? They do not feel ashamed.’ I have heard a lot of things. In fact, even today I hear so many things.”
She recalled a specific incident: “My father and mother were telling me that we had gone to Punjab, and someone came and said, ‘You know their daughters wear such clothes in Bombay. They have a different mentality over there.’ So, my parents have heard a lot of such stuff.”

Despite the constant criticism, Avneet expressed deep gratitude for her parents’ unwavering support. “Hats off to my mother and father that all these things didn’t affect them. Because a lot happens mentally, and they start thinking, let it be. Thank God, they didn’t think otherwise. They always gave me power; they always gave me hope. They always give me the freedom to choose, to wear and to be however I want to be.”
