Apart from being a lifetime of responsibility, having a child is also pretty expensive with all the hospital expenses and diapers. Taking that into consideration, it is important to normalise the choice of not having a child or aborting a child. Sadly, in India, not many people talk about abortions being okay. Even today, abortion remains a hush-hush topic and most couples chose to not talk about it even with their own family due to the fear of being pressurised into having a child. But recently, television actor Arjun Bijlani opened up about wanting to abort his first child with wife Neha Swami Bijlani due to his financial conditions.
In a recent promo of the reality show Smart Jodi, Arjun Bijlani and his wife Neha Swami Bijlani can be seen making the revelation about not being able to take responsibility of a child due to a financial crunch and taking the decision of aborting it. Arjun shared that the couple had been married for just one year when they found out that Neha is pregnant. Sharing that he had not been working for about one and a half years, the actor said that he could not take responsibility of a child as he only had about Rs 40,000-50,000 in his bank account so they decided to end the pregnancy.
Recounting his wife’s condition, Arjun Bijlani shared that Neha Swami Bijlani cried a lot as it was a tough decision and he also felt strange but then they went to the hospital after deciding to abort the child. While his wife did not talk about it, she was seen crying as he shared the incident. As heartbreaking as this incident sounds, we’re honestly glad that Arjun and Neha have got the conversation around abortion going. TBH, it’s time we start normalising abortion.
