Ariana Grande has been making headlines with the promotion of her new project called Wicked: For Good. While her chemistry with Cynthia has been the talk of the town, many wondered why her love scene with Jonathan Bailey was removed from the final cut. Well, if reports are to be believed, many say that it was a little too ‘steamy’ to be on the big screen. Read to know more about what happened here.
About Jonathan Bailey, Ariana Grande’s Kiss
Wicked’s co-writer, Dana Fox, told Deadline, “There was a scene between Fiyero and Glinda that we cut in which they kissed; it was romantic and beautiful, but a little too passionate.” For the unversed, Ariana, Galinda (who becomes ‘Good Witch’) is betrothed to Bailey’s character, Prince Fiyero, who eventually leaves her for Cynthia Eviro’s Elphaba, who becomes the ‘Wicked Witch of the West.’ Fox said that
Fox explained that watching the scene made it incredibly difficult to accept Fiyero’s eventual decision to be with Elphaba. It also became harder to justify Elphaba leaving with him. The moment felt too genuine, as if Fiyero and Glinda were truly sharing something emotional. According to Fox, Fiyero did care deeply for Glinda, but his feelings for her were simply of a different kind. The scene, she said, came across as overly romantic, and revealing that level of connection would only confuse viewers when Fiyero doesn’t end up choosing Glinda. It would risk making the audience resent all three characters, Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero, by the end.
She said that it was a good cut because it was so adorable that you couldn’t handle it. Fox said that there were no regrets when it came to Wicked: For Good footage left on the cutting room floor. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know.
