AR Rahman, Saira Banu’s Love Story
Saira Banu was born in Kutch, Gujarat and is seven years younger than the composer. AR Rahman met Saira for the first time on his 28th birthday, January 6, 1995, and he was impressed by her beauty and kindness. Further, they started talking on the phone and then the composer asked Saira to marry him. They got married on March 12, 1995, in Chennai. Their wedding ceremony took place in the same building where the composer set up his AM Studios in 2006.
Furthermore, since AR Rahman and Saira belonged from different cultural backgrounds it took some time for them to get used to each other’s cultures and families. For the unversed, AR Rahman is from a South Indian family whereas Saira is from a Gujarati family. Even though they were in love, it was tough to adjust. Moreover, they lived as a joint family because of Rahman’s mother. In 1995, the couple was blessed with their first child Khatija and later they welcomed two more children, Ameen and Raheema.
