In a bold move that has sent quite the shockwaves, acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently took to his Instagram to lay down new ground rules for aspiring creatives seeking his guidance. The maverick director, known for his uncompromising storytelling and avant-garde approach to cinema, expressed his frustration with individuals who, he feels, exploit his time and expertise without adequate compensation.

Sharing his sentiments in a candid post, Kashyap pulled no punches as he addressed what he termed “random people” who approach him under the guise of creative geniuses. With a tinge of exasperation evident in his words, he lamented the countless hours he had invested in nurturing newcomers, only to find himself inundated with projects that failed to meet his expectations.

“It’s time to put an end to this,” Kashyap declared in his post, drawing a line in the sand. Henceforth, he proclaimed, meetings with him would come at a price. The rates he outlined were clear and unequivocal: 1 lac for a brief 10-15 minute interaction, 2 lacs for a half-hour session, and a substantial 5 lacs for a full hour of his time. This move, he asserted, was not only a measure to safeguard his own interests but also a way to sift through genuine opportunities from those seeking shortcuts.

Emphasizing the seriousness of his stance, Anurag Kashyap reiterated that communication channels such as texts, DMs, or calls would no longer suffice. Those seeking his counsel must be prepared to pay upfront for the privilege of his time and expertise. Among those chiming in was Kashyap’s daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, whose tongue-in-cheek response added a touch of humour to the discourse. “Forwarding this to everyone in my DMs and email who keeps sending me scripts to forward to you,” she quipped, accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Amidst this declaration, Anurag Kashyap’s creative journey continues to evolve. Beyond his role as a mentor and guide, he is set to make his mark in the Malayalam film industry with a debut acting role in Aashiq Abu’s Rifle Club.
