The prestigious Emmy Awards 2024 took place on September 16, 2024. Many historical wins were witnessed during the event and one of them was of Anna Sawai. The actress won her first Emmy for the popular television series Shogun. Not only that but with this win, she also became the first Japanese actress to win an Emmy Award. Anna Sawai won her first Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Actress in the Drama Series for the TV series Shogun. She became the first Japanese actress and the second Japanese actor to add this big win to her list of achievements. Anna is the second Japanese actor to win the Emmy after Hiroyuki Sanada. She got emotional while receiving her big win. During her acceptance speech, she thanked the team of Shogun, including the lead actor Sanada, and the rest of the cast and the crew. Anna also said that this opportunity opened the door to many possibilities for her.

Anna Sawai thanked her mother and said that it was because of her stoicism that she could play the role of Mariko in all honesty. Anna Sawai dedicated her award to all the women who continue to set an example for all women and never expect anything in return.

Her show Shogun made history at Emmy Awards this year by becoming the show with the most number of nominations. In total, Shogun won 14 Emmy Awards, and that’s pretty huge. The show’s lead star Hiroyuki Sanada also won in the category of Best Lead Actor in Drama Series.
