Anjali Anand On Beauty Standards
During the conversation, Anjali Anand talked about toxic beauty patterns in Bollywood and on social media. She said, “Everyone is different, so I don’t know how there’s one beauty standard set for everyone. But I’ll tell you why it happens, because right now, everyone looks the same. Everyone has had the same surgeries, the same doctor, same clothes, same everything.”
She continued, “I get DMs on social media saying, ‘You look just like my sister who’s also chubby or bigger.’ Everyone says, ‘Oh I look just like you’ but why do you want to look like me? Why can’t you just look like you? Everyone who has a bit chubby or bubbly friend or whatever, people say I remind them of them. I am so tired of getting the same roles also, I never reply to them. Things are changing, and sometimes I have to accept roles hich are of a bigger woman, but one day, someone would write a good film for me and I will kill it that time.

There’s no need to challenge the beauty standards. You redefine whatever beauty is to you. Why should I shout and say ‘I am beautiful?’ I feel beautiful, so I will live my life. I know a lot of women who have the perfect body, they still don’t feel beautiful. So be yourself.”
