The Hyderabad Nampally Court is expected to deliver its verdict today i.e., on January 3 2024 against the bail plea of actor Allu Arjun in connection with the stampede incident at Sandhya Theatre during the December 4, 2024, premiere of his much-anticipated film, Pushpa 2: The Rule. The tragic incident claimed the life of 35-year-old Revathi and left her young son critically injured.
Hyderabad Court On Allu Arjun Stampede Row
Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13 for his alleged role in the incident but was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court the same day. The actor’s initial release was conditional, requiring a bond payment of Rs 50,000, with the court granting him a four-week reprieve. Today’s verdict marks a significant milestone in the case, as the court weighs the arguments presented by all parties involved.
The stampede occurred when an overwhelming number of fans gathered at the theatre to see the star during the premiere. The chaos escalated, leading to a crush that resulted in Revathi’s tragic death and left her son with severe injuries. The situation reportedly worsened due to inadequate crowd control and the presence of Allu Arjun’s security personnel, whose actions allegedly added to the tension at the venue.
Revathi’s family has since raised concerns about the safety measures at the event. They have also accused the local police of mishandling the situation, claiming that excessive force, including a lathi charge, played a role in the chaos that led to the stampede. The family’s complaint has led to charges being filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), not only against Allu Arjun but also involving his security team and the theatre management.
In response to the tragedy, Allu Arjun and his family extended financial support to the victims. The actor’s father, producer Allu Aravind, announced a Rs 2 crore aid package for the injured child and his family. Meanwhile, the child’s father recently expressed relief as his son showed signs of recovery after weeks in critical care.
The incident has also drawn the attention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which has launched an inquiry into the matter, particularly allegations of police misconduct. The NHRC has directed senior officials to conduct a detailed investigation and submit a comprehensive report. Today’s court ruling will not only determine the immediate legal implications for Allu Arjun but also set a precedent for accountability and safety protocols at large public events within the film industry.
