Production house Eros International has asked for Rs 84 crores in damages from director Aanand L Rai for allegedly promoting Tere Ishk Mein as a ‘spiritual sequel’ to the 2013 film Raanjhanaa, which was backed by the company, per reports. Both films star actor Dhanush as the protagonist. His character is named Kundan in the former and Shankar in the latter. Read to know more about it here.

Eros International, in the lawsuit, has accused Aanand L Rai and production firm Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP of illegally leveraging the intellectual property of Raanjhanaa to promote Tere Ishk Mein, as per Mid-Day. The production house also claimed that they hold exclusive rights, including trademarks, characters, dialogues, and sequel or remake rights over the 2013 film featuring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor. They also accused the makers of suggesting a connection between the two films.
For the unversed, the teaser of Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s starrer Tere Ishk Mein had phrases like “from the world of Ranjhanaa,” which suggested a connection between the two films as per Eros. According to WION, the corporation has mentioned Netflix and T-Series in a case now being tried in the Bombay High Court. Meanwhile, Rai has responded to the controversy by stating that it is a normal part of doing business in the sector. “These are part of life.” In an interview with NDTV, Rai stated that such incidents are common when starting a business.
