On August 13, 2025, his granddaughter, Saaniya Chandok, got engaged to cricketer Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, bringing together two of Mumbai’s most prominent families.

As chairman of the Graviss Group, Ghai oversees an empire that includes the InterContinental Hotel on Marine Drive, a property he transformed from the old Natraj Hotel into one of Mumbai’s most recognisable luxury destinations. His ventures extend well beyond hotels. He’s the man who brought Baskin-Robbins to India and the SAARC region in 1993, making international ice cream flavours a household indulgence. His portfolio further consists of the heritage brand Kwality and the new Brooklyn Creamery, targeted at health-conscious consumers.
With a Cornell University School of Hotel Administration degree under his belt, Ghai returned to Mumbai in 1967 to continue his family business. Across the decades, he has married global industry practices with Indian market understanding. With him at the helm, Graviss Food Solutions registered revenues worth 624 crore in FY23–24, representing 20% year-over-year growth. The group’s net worth is estimated at 800–1,000 crore.
Though Ghai has retained heritage assets such as the Gaylord restaurant, he has not hesitated to evolve with new markets and diversify into products and alliances appealing to the younger generation of consumers.

A month ago, Ghai blamed his son Gaurav for taking over the Graviss Group while he was undergoing cancer treatment. Forgery, fraud, and even the stoppage of his monthly allowance were alleged. The police treated it like a domestic issue, and the case has been shifted to arbitration.
