Bollywood star Aamir Khan recently found himself in the middle of a controversy after he went to vote for the BMC elections 2026. He got involved in the Hindi vs Marathi language debate during his brief chat with the media after casting the vote. He was seen appealing to the Mumabaikars to come out and vote in the election and even praised the arrangements for the polling. As he was speaking in Marathi, a media person asked him to repeat the same message in Hindi.

What Aamir Khan Said

Aamir Khan said, “In Hindi? This is Maharashtra,” with a smile. When the journalist told him that his message would also air in Delhi, he replied, “Oh, it will go to Delhi as well? Very good arrangements have been made. I would appeal to everyone: come and cast your valuable vote.” This became a headline since language is a much-debated topic in Maharashtra, and the Hindi vs Marathi debate was reignited during the BMC elections.

The BJP politician Kripashankar Singh’s remark that a Hindi speaker will become Mumbai’s Mayor elicited harsh reactions from Thackeray brothers Uddhav and Raj, who have reunited after two decades. The Thackerays have urged the ‘Marathi Manoos’ to avoid this division and urged people to come together for Marathi and Maharashtra, as the city of Mumbai was obtained through the sacrifices of many people.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stated that non-Marathi speakers are completely safe in Mumbai and criticised the Thackerays for targeting poor groups. Apart from Aamir, many Bollywood stars like Hema Malini, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, and more were also seen casting their votes. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know.
