From Releases To License, All We Know About Netflix’s Acquisition Of Warner Bros

The biggest news in the world of entertainment right now is the OTT platform Netflix officially acquiring Warner Bros, the studio known for films like Harry Potter, Barbie, Justice League, and more. Along with Warner Bros, the OTT has also bought HBO and HBO Max. This has left the film buffs with a lot of questions on many things related to the future of film releases in the theatre, and more. Netflix’s bid to acquire Warner Bros, HBO, and HBO Max was the highest. The deal was finalised in $82.7 billion. The deal now gives Netflix control over some of the biggest Warner Bros franchises like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and even some more DC films. This in turn will bring more subscribers to the OTT platform. This vertical integration will also result to cost cutting in the operations, licensing, and distribution.

Now the question is about the release of the Warner Bros films. Firstly all the HBO premium films will not be added to Netflix. Although the HBO can also keep its content as the premium tier even on Netflix. While there is no clarity as to which titles will be available on Netflix as of now, but if reports are to be believed then the OTT platform has non-exclusively got the license to the older shows of HBO Max in some regions. However, the films will continue to have theatrical releases and no major changes in the workings will happen until 2026.
