Double Standards In K-Pop
Recently, Tarzzan, a member of the co-ed group ALLDAY, caused a lot of outrage and discussions online. Earlier, he faced massive criticism for cultural appropriation. Internet users demanded his removal from the group. But this backlash was short-lived. Soon, positive tweets about Tarzzan went viral. Fans praised his looks and rapping skills, which raised a big question on the internet. Many people were angry at how Tarzzan was being hyped up even though he still had the same controversial hairstyle, yet the group KISS OF LIFE was still suffering.
Fans noticed a clear double standard and stated how female idols are treated much more harshly than male idols. One user commented on this disparity. They stated that KISS OF LIFE received threats and apologised four times. Meanwhile, Tarzzan received so much praise.
Another user stated that K-Pop fans are quick to forgive men for things they heavily criticise women for. More users weighed in on the issue. They found it ironic that certain actions are seen as “hot” when a male idol does them. However, when female idols do the same things, it becomes a problem.
