90s superstar Karisma Kapoor’s marriage to businessman Sunjay Kapur was the talk of the town back then. After her engagement to Abhishek Bachchan broke off, everyone was shocked to see this clash in the two ‘royal families’ of Bollywood, just weeks after the announcement. Just months later, she got hitched to the industrialist. Here’s all about their fairytale wedding coming to an end.

The question in Bollywood at that time became, “Who is Sunjay?” The industrialist was a divorcee and apparently the life of the Delhi party circuit. But Karisma Kapoor’s mother, Babita, just wanted an ‘industrialist’ husband for her daughter, as per Hindustan Times. He was a good catch, and nothing else mattered to the former actress, and Sunjay was a little star-struck as well. Their wedding was nothing short of a dream in Chembur at the iconic RK Studios. Though many from the industry avoided it due to their loyalty to the Bachchans.

After wrapping her last few films, Kapoor moved to Delhi to start a life with her husband. Though she kept travelling back to Mumbai for work, A Miracle of Destiny reported that her husband wasn’t a fan of that. This led to her saying adieu to her acting career for a matter of time. Later, a source told HT that Karisma felt uneasy at Delhi parties and felt like she ‘didn’t fit in’ with the crowd. And in March 2005, the actress moved back to Mumbai for her daughter Samaira’s birth and decided to stay back.

After that, Sunjay went back to her with divorce papers, but she refused to sign them. They eventually reconciled with negotiation and became parents once again to son Kiaan in 2011. But their marriage fell apart again as Kapur blamed Babita’s ‘interference’ in her daughter’s life. The actress alleged domestic abuse in her divorce case. She also attributed the split to her husband’s substance abuse. A messy divorce was followed by a split in 2016.
