In the recent past, many actors have had their fair share of run-ins with the law enforcement and most of those run-ins were with the Enforcement Directorate (ED). And now it is time to add one more name to the list of actors that were summoned by the ED – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Yep, the ED summoned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to record her statement in connection with the Panama Papers case. However, the actress won’t appear in front of the Enforcement Directorate as her adjournment plea was accepted.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Monday to record her statement on the Panama Papers case that revealed how the world’s rich stash their wealth in offshore firms. However, the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress won’t appear in front of the central agency since her plea for adjournment has been accepted. Aishwarya Rai had sought adjournments twice earlier as well.
The probe agency, ED, wants to question Aishwarya Rai Bachchan over allegations of stashing her wealth abroad. The Panama Papers case is an investigation of millions of documents that were stolen and leaked to the media in 2016.

As per reports, out of the leaked financial records of many was the name of Amitabh Bachchan which came up in the Panama Papers case that is being probed by the Income Tax Department. In 2017, the Enforcement Directorate had received replies from Amitabh Bachchan and other family members with regards to the probe. In fact, the agency had also said that the notices issued for the Bachchan family asked them to explain their foreign remittances since 2004 under the LRS (Liberalised Remittance Scheme) of the RBI.
With so many investigations going on concerning actors, this news doesn’t really come up as shocking. I mean, I’m surprised but not shocked, to say the least. And it infuriates me to know that India’s rich are just thinking about their own good rather than helping the country by paying taxes.
