Rahul Banerjee Death Case: AICWA Demands Strict Action Against Producers, And 1 Crore Compensation For Actor’s Family

The nation was truly shocked after the reports of Bengali star Rahul Banerjee’s death after drowning surfaced online. Now, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has shared a statement in which they asked that a murder charge be filed against the Bhole Baba Paar Karega filmmakers. Additionally, they have also asked for Rs 1 crore compensation for the late actor’s family, citing their failure to adhere to safety measures while filming at Talsari Beach. Rahul and Sweta Mishra were allegedly filming a scene in shallow water during which they fell into a ditch. Rahul, unfortunately, did not survive this. The police are looking into the matter.

AICWA Asks For Strict Actions Against Producers

According to the media reports, AICWA mentioned in a statement that shoots that involve waterbodies, especially the ocean, require safety measures to include trained divers, rescue teams, and emergency preparedness. As per the organisation, the absence or failure of such safety measures leans towards serious lapses by producers, production houses, and the concerned broadcasting channels.

Additionally, the AICWA has consistently highlighted that many production houses and filmmakers and channel entities usually compromise on safety protocols to cut costs, which puts the lives of workers and artists in danger. They mentioned that every year, multiple incidents happen in the Indian film industry where many people lose their lives due to the unsafe working environment. However, such matters are suppressed, and accountability is rarely taken.

In Rahul Banerjee’s case, they mentioned Mamata Banerjee and Mohan Charan Majhi’s names, asking them to take action and intervene in the matter. The organisation has asked for an FIR to be registered under the murder charge against the producers. They have also asked for a high-level, time-bound judicial inquiry into the incident. Additionally, the organisation has asked that the family of Rahul Banerjee be compensated with Rs 1 crore. Not just that, AICWA has asked that the producers and concerned channels of the project be blacklisted and impose a ban on their future projects within the Indian film and TV industry until strict safety compliance mechanisms are verified and enforced.
