Aespa Stuns Fans With Drastic New Lightstick Design Ahead Of World Tour!

Lightsticks are an important part of K-pop fan culture. They are usually used by fans during concerts or even bought as collectible items for their favourite group. Recently popular girl group Aespa unveiled the second version of the lightsick and the new design has taken many by surprise. Instead of making slight upgrades in the lightstick, their company, SM Entertainment, chose to completely change its design. Read on to know more.

Aespa Unveils New Lightstick

Unlike most groups’ “Version 2” lightsticks, which typically focus on improving brightness or adding small updates, aespa’s new design completely transforms their old design. Now, instead of the commonly used dome-shaped structure found in many K-pop lightsticks, the new shape is quite abstract. Aespa fans jokingly compared the new design to the shape of a pretzel.

The new lightstick design confused many, but on closer inspection, many felt that the revamp is indeed smart. The curved shape of it resembles the letters ‘a’ and ‘e’ fused together.  This design appears to connect back to aespa’s use of the symbol “æ,” a stylistic feature often used in their branding. After this analysis, the unusual design of the lightstick starts to make sense.

However, even after the discovery of the meaning, reactions to the revamped lightick remain mixed.  While some fans appreciate the creativity and originality of the bold redesign, others argue that it strays too far from aespa’s sleek, futuristic aesthetic. Aespa is known for their cyberpunk futuristic concept, so many people think the lightstick does not fit into it.

Despite divided opinions, the reveal has generated a lot of buzz ahead of Aespa’s packed schedule. The group is set to kick off their third world tour, AExis Line, with three consecutive concerts in Seoul on August 29, 30, and 31. The group will also be releasing their highly anticipated mini album titled Rich Man on September 5.
