Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has thrived in his professional career, but his personal life hasn’t always been easy. Having gone through two divorces and not spending enough time with his kids, the actor has always spoken about his struggles. While his daughter Ira Khan has often talked about how difficult it was to open up to him, the actor and his daughter have taken a step in the right direction by going to joint therapy to resolve their issues.
Aamir Khan, Ira Khan Take Therapy Sessions
Aamir Khan recently appeared on Netflix India’s YouTube channel for a conversation with his daughter Ira Khan and Dr. Vivek Murthy. The actor talked about breaking the myth that Indians have about how going to therapy meant having mental problems. According to him, this made people feel that they needed to hide from them seeking professional help.
He said, “Therapy is so helpful. I think she (Ira) pushed me down that path. I would strongly recommend therapy to anyone who feels the need for it. It has been helpful for me. In fact, Ira and I also have started joint therapy.” He said that they both take joint sessions. The father-daughter duo wanted to resolve the issues that have been there for years.

Ira Khan agreed with her father and stated that developing a strong bond with one’s parents was very important. During the same conversation, Aamir Khan said that no matter how important or worldly-wise one is, some issues just can’t be resolved by ourselves, because the person with more knowledge, who knows minds better, can be of help sometimes too. He concluded by saying, “In India, a lot of us feel if I go for therapy, I have a mental problem. I don’t want people to know I’m going for therapy. But it is okay need help. I have benefited greatly from therapy”.
It’s so refreshing and great to hear from a mainstream actor with a huge audience talking about taking therapy publicly. While many of us believe that heroes don’t go through anything, they too, are humans. This is a great example of why more of us should talk about seeking help making lives a bit easier and realising the love we have for each other.
