Shruti Haasan is an Indian actress and the daughter of the well-known actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan and actress Sarika. As far as her career goes, she has come a long way. You could pretty much call her a multi-hyphenate. But what really sets her apart is the fact that she has always been unapologetically honest. She has always been a strong female force who boldly stands her ground. We could clearly see this fabulous side of hers during the first episode of our brand-new series, The Male Feminist.

Shruti Haasan, in conversation with The Male Feminist, Siddharth Aalambayan, spoke her heart out as she talked about feminism, patriarchy, period pain, relationships, plastic surgery and of course, the film industry during the episode. She also dropped some major truth bombs during this episode. Are you wondering what these bombs were? Well, let’s explore them with a list.

6 Truth Bombs Shruti Haasan Dropped During The Male Feminist Episode 1:

1. About Being True Feminists

Shruti Haasan discussed how her boyfriend Santanu Hazarika understands that being a supportive feminist is the only way to be. She discussed how being understanding and supportive shouldn’t really be a choice, it should be understood by everyone. I genuinely loved this point.

2. About Marriage And The Age Factor

Shruti Haasan discussed the fact that she has been repeatedly told that it’s time for her to get married. People keep asking her when she will tie the knot because of her age. But, she clearly added that this idea of getting married is associated with a particular is only because it’s ingrained and conditioned in our brains and we should work on it.

3. On The Reality Of Bollywood

Shruti Haasan was very direct when she mentioned the fact that Bollywood is extremely male-dominated and hierarchy-driven as an industry. She further stated the fact that she has faced a lot of instances where she has to prove to everyone that she deserves to be where she is. Dealing with these toxic men can be very heartbreaking for actresses.

4. That Toxic Feminists Exist

Shruti strongly believes that there are a lot of people out there who have taken over the term ‘feminist’ and have started using it in a very absurd and wrong sense. Although she respects everyone who associates with the term, she does believe that it’s about time to strengthen the sisterhood.

5. Why Being Vocal Helps

Shruti looked back and shared the fact that as a young girl, she has to bear with very painful dysmenorrhea i.e. awful period cramps which would make her puke and faint. This started a conversation in her school about periods and beautifully broke the layer of stigma. So, she believes that it’s essential to openly talk about things and start a much-needed conversation.

6. On Bollywood Needing Sensitivity

Shruti stated that we are on our periods, it’s like we’re struggling and fighting a war against our bodies but the people in the film industry don’t understand this fact. So, actresses have to get to work, act in a certain way and dance while they are hurting and in pain. So, the industry really needs to work actively to understand and work on this matter.

I swear, I genuinely feel motivated by her answers and I’m so glad about the fact that celebrities like her do exist in the Bollywood film industry.
