The much-awaited film festival every year is the prestigious event of Cannes. The festival kickstarted on May 16, Tuesday with many Indian celebrities making their red carpet debut. Cannes is known to celebrate films and filmmakers from all over the world, however, female representation has forever been very little at this forum. To much surprise, this time, a record-breaking number of female filmmakers will be seen competing for the highest honorary award at Cannes- Palme d’Or!
Alice Rohrwacher
Alice Rohrwacher is an Italian film director who is back with her fourth nomination at the Cannes film festival. Her latest film La Chimera has been selected to compete for the Palme d’Or award this year. Alice Rohrwacher’s film Le Pupille was nominated for the Oscars 2023 awards.

A Tunisian film director, Kaouther Ben Hania has been nominated for her film Olfa’s Daughter (Four Daughters). It will be premiered at Cannes on May 19 and is a documentary drama, primarily in the Arabic language.
