Jassi Weds Jassi: 5 Thoughts On The 90s Rom-Com Ft Sikandar Kher, Ranvir Shorey!

Amid the release of hard-hitting films like Haq and Baramulla, a light-hearted rom-com set in the 90s also hit the theatres this week. Titled Jassi Weds Jassi, the film is directed by Pawan Bawa. It stars Sikandar Kher, Ranvir Shorey, Manu Rishi Chadha, Grusha Kapoor, Harshvardhan Deo, Rehmat Rattan, and Amit Vikram Pandey. Jassi Weds Jassi attempts to serve us a chaotic, humorous, and charming romantic drama, and here are our honest thoughts on the film. Read on.

1. Performances

The entire cast of Jassi Weds Jassi delivers honest performances in the film. Sikandar Kher as the gym freak Jassi attempts to do something fresh on-screen, and is a delight to watch. Ranvir Shorey makes his pervert character of Sehgal look very convincing. Grusha Kapoor is simply charming and funny as Sehgal’s wife Sweety. Manu Rishi Chadha and Sudesh Lehri are perfect with their comic timings. Harshvardhan Deo (Jassi) and Rehmat Rattan (Jassi) have also delivered promising performances as the main lead on-screen couple in the film. Amit Vikram Pandey as Balbir, Jassi’s good friend and the owner of a cassette shop leaves a lasting impression with his strong screen-presence.

2. Nostalgia

After a long time, we are taken back to the 90s era where life was simple, love was uncomplicated and friendships were long lasting, no matter what the situation is. Jassi Weds Jassi attempts to give us that nostalgia through the characters, lead pair’s love story (one-sided, of course), and the cassette shop (long time since we thought about them).

3. Plot

Jassi Weds Jassi has a shaky plot. While the performances are enjoyable, the plot and storytelling in the film feels inconsistent. The brewing one-sided love story between Jassi (Harshvardhan) and Jassi (Rehmatt Ratan) could have been explored with more depth, the drama, choas and confusion towards the end was short-lived, and the characters needed better writing.

4. Music

Jassi Weds Jassi has a decent music album. Special mentions to ‘Chamkila’ by Mohit Chauhan and ‘Bhool Jawanga’ by Prashant Beybaar.

5. Comedy

The film has few humorous moments and most of them come from the characters of Balbir (Amit Vikram Pandey), Sweety Aunty (Grusha Kapoor) and Kartar (Manu Rishi Chadha). The one liners and the situational comedy featuring these characters are organic!

The film hit the theatres on November 7.
