Takachi has a truly interesting career trajectory. As reported by the BBC, Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) elected the 64-year-old during its 70th anniversary. This resulted in putting her on the race to become the first female prime minister.

Takaichi was born in 1961 in Nara Prefecture to an office worker father and a police officer mother. It seems that politics wasn’t a part of her life initially. She is a skilled heavy metal drummer and also a scuba diver. But these aren’t the only things that make her cool. She is also a car enthusiast and her Toyota Supra is reported to be displayed in a Nara museum. Before she set foot in politics, she served as a television host. Takaichi was reportedly inspired to be part of politics in the 1980s after witnessing the trade tensions between the United States and Japan.

One should know that Takaichi became the leader of the LDP on her third attempt. Back in 2021, she lost to Fumio Kishida. The 64-year-old represents the LDP’s right-wing side. With her being elected as the party’s leader, the LDP reportedly hopes to get conservative voters on their side. As of now, all eyes are on Japan’s parliament, which is expected to confirm Takachi as nation’s prime minister on 15 October 2025.
