Exclusive: Can Men Also Claim Alimony After Divorce? Expert Reveals All!

When we think of alimony, most people automatically picture a woman receiving financial support from her ex-husband after a divorce. But in today’s world, the tables can turn. Men, too, can be entitled to alimony under certain circumstances. During an exclusive chat with Hauterrfly’s Haute Expert, hosted by Janvi Manchanda, Advocate Ridhi Thakkar unveils the facts about the procedure. Read to know more here.

Can Men Claim Alimony?

During the exclusive chat, Ridhi Thakkar said, “There are laws safeguarding men. The books of law state that men have equal rights of alimony, but are subject to personal loss. For women coming to the court to claim alimony, the fee for that is waived. And when men ask for the same or maintenance, we as lawyers have to look at the court fee according to the ready reckoner.”

The advocate also talked about situations where there have been fake abuse cases against men. She said, “First of all, the woman has to prove with evidence that she has been domestically abused, which amounts to domestic violence. So, the burden of proof lies on the shoulders of the person who is filing the complaint. So, if a woman goes to the court to take revenge on the man and his family, the court would also notice the lack of evidence. There have been many instances where women have come up with false cases for alimony. Some also give digitally made evidence, but the court provides justice to the man and his family.”
