This Reebok Ad On Equal Pay Is A Wake-Up Call For Women Everywhere!
Reebok just released a video, highlighting the issue of equal pay, and it made us sit up and take notice!
Why? Well, if there’s one fight every working woman has been fighting for years now, it’s for the right to equal pay. We’ve always been considered the weaker sex, no matter how hard we work or how great the results! And this video just made it all too real.
Women all across the world have proved themselves and how – but we still continue to struggle against the notion that men deserve more. It’s not enough that we face sexism almost every day in the workplace, but we also get paid less to deal with it! Unfortunately, we’re still trying to figure out why.
According to 2016 research, women in India still earned 25% less than their male counterparts. Unfair, isn’t it?
Even in Bollywood, a lot of celebrities have spoken up about the unfair treatment of actresses. Actresses are still viewed as ‘accessories’ to the main hero of the film, and therefore, are paid less than their co-actors.
Aditi Rao Hydari once stated that although equal effort goes in from both sides, the male actor always receives a chunkier amount than the actress. Not only Aditi, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Kangana Ranaut have all come out saying that “actresses” tend to be sidelined.
“I think it’s about time, as women, as actors, and as artists, we get our due,” Sonam Kapoor disclosed on talk show, Koffee With Karan. And we couldn’t agree more!
Whether or not you’re in the entertainment industry, we’ve all faced this kind of discrimination. How many times have we been looked down upon, interrupted, questioned, or been prejudiced towards, just because of our gender? And if ever we stood up, we were labelled as bossy, pushy, aggressive, or the classic…just PMSing!
This Reebok advert basically reminds us all that it’s necessary to fight, to not give up, and to keep pushing, because we deserve more than what we’ve got. As the video articulates, how will you get the lion’s share, if you don’t roar like one!
The next time someone puts you down, you need to say, “Equal pay, if you want me to stay!” #GirlsFight
