‘Bigg Boss 16’ Is Punishing Contestants For Good Behaviour. How Far Will They Go For The Sake Of Controversy?

There’s only one Indian reality show that is known to stir up some crazy controversies and shed light on the problematic behaviour of several contestants over the years and seasons. Of course, Bigg Boss has new drama, romance and controversies to offer us every season but this season seems to have gone too far. Netizens are coming down heavy on Bigg Boss 16 for its choice of contestants which includes sexual harassment, domestic violence, and stalking accused people. As if that wasn’t enough, this reality show has taken it all a notch higher by deciding to punish contestants for good behaviour. Yep, you read that right. Bigg Boss has declared war on the contestants by going after any and every contestant who shows even an ounce of love, care and good behaviour.

Allow me to explain this. Recently, during the nominations, the contestants were asked to nominate 2 contestants to be removed from the Bigg Boss house but unlike other seasons, this time, no one had to explain why they nominated whoever they chose to nominate. In the nomination round, Tina Datta nominated Sajid Khan and MC Stan while Manya Singh nominated Gori Nagori and MC Stand and Soundarya Sharma nominated Ankit Gupta and Abdu Rozik. Here’s where things turned interesting. Bigg Boss decided to stir things up and sprinkle some more drama on this already controversial reality show. All three contestants – Tina Datta, Manya Singh and Soundarya Sharma immediately apologised after nominating the other contestants which seems to have irked Bigg Boss. He called a meeting with all the contestants and mocked Tina, Soundarya and Manya for saying “sorry” and called them “mahaan log” and responded to their good behaviour by punishing them. Yep, not kidding. The 3 contestants were asked to take over all household chores and divide it among themselves until the next order from Bigg Boss.

In my honest opinion, this was really uncalled for. It’s not like all these contestants aren’t going to stir up some controversy during the course of the show. So, what was the need to punish their good behaviour in a bid to stir up controversy? What good is really coming from this? And what message are the makers trying to send to the masses? Tina, Manya and Soundarya’s “sorry” was the proof of kindness in a toxic reality show that features contestants accused of crimes. Their good behaviour was a little bit of light amid the darkness but Bigg Boss 16 has decided to nip the niceness in the bud before it grows.

Now, hold on. If you think that’s all, you couldn’t be more wrong. Priyanka was targeted again by Bigg Boss 16 for her morality. The actress supported Manya Singh and fought for her when Tina and Manya had a fight over their kitchen duties. Manya was asked to clean the basin as a part of her cleaning responsibility but she refused, stating that those cleaning the utensils should be the ones doing it which later led to a fight between Manya and Tina. When Nimrit asked Manya to clean the basin, it led to an argument where Priyanka got involved and even fought with Nimrit for Manya. Despite the punishment given to Manya, Tina and Soundarya, Priyanka seemed to have been working around the house and doing household chores which pissed Bigg Boss off. Soon after he called the Captain of the house, Nimrit inside the confession room and asked her to relieve one of the contestants from their punishment and replace her with Priyanka. Since Priyanka was fighting for Manya and feeling sorry for her, Nimrit decides to replace Manya with Priyanka.

In fact, the captain, Nimrit was also slammed by Bigg Boss on Day 1 when she permitted the contestants to choose their own beds and take up household chores that they were comfortable with.

And this isn’t all. There were other instances when BB rebuked contestants for showcasing integrity. Evidence in question is the fact that Priyanka Chahar Choudhary was rebuked and punished for showcasing her righteousness and Gori Nagori gets slammed for not being more “involved” (read: for not creating controversies and having fights). Priyanka received an earful from Bigg Boss for helping others and giving them “advice” instead of concentrating on her own game on the show. She was told to keep her helpfulness reserved for a limited number of people instead of helping others. When did helping others or giving them advice become a bad thing? Also, why is Bigg Boss suddenly dictating who is supposed to behave how and say what? Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Does Bigg Boss take fundamental rights from contestants when they enter the house? It was heartbreaking to watch the actress have a breakdown after being slammed for her niceness on the show.

On the other hand, Gori Nagori was rebuked by Bigg Boss for not being more involved with other contestants and forming bonds and friendships. Well, TBH, we think she’s very sorted. She keeps to herself and does not participate in unnecessary conversations and fights. Gori Nagori is a chill vibe and everyone needs to just take a lesson from her on how to chill TF out instead of spewing crap and creating controversies from petty issues.

The only person on Bigg Boss 16 who seems to be allowed to showcase his kindness and niceness seems to be Sajid Khan. Surprisingly, Bigg Boss has no issues with the filmmaker questioning Shalin Bhanot for nominating him or for playing peacemaker in fights or for not stirring up controversies. Looks like this season of the reality show is all about Sajid Khan whitewashing his image while everyone else kicks up a storm with some or the other controversy. Only he is allowed to be a nice boy and have morality, hai na Bigg Boss?
