Vidya Balan Wears The Most Practical And Fuss-Free Saree That Has An Underskirt And, Wait For It…A Pocket! We Are Obsessed!

It’s crazy how men always wonder why women need gigantic bags to keep their stuff but never realise that we have been victims of sexist clothing since the inception of fashion. Why isn’t women’s apparel as functional as menswear and doesn’t include pockets? I mean, we obviously have more things to carry with us and more often than not, our brothers, boyfriends and guy friends would also hand over some of their stuff to keep in our bags. Is it a scam to dupe us into buying more bags? Well, that isn’t so bad. However, we’d still prefer our clothing to be more thoughtful, please! While there are some brands that have started incorporating pockets in skirts and dresses, we could really benefit from these worthy compartments being featured into occasionwear staples, like a saree. Well, this isn’t a pipe dream anymore. Vidya Balan just sported a saree that comes with a cute pocket and we can’t get over it.

The classic Indian drape, a saree is a gorgeous piece of clothing but does have some downsides to it, especially if you are a newbie. I mean walking in it isn’t a cakewalk as is, and if you are required to carry those clutches or potli bags with you to keep your phone and personal belongings, yeah, you are pretty much screwed. You would literally have to pick between saving yourself from tripping and handling your purse. The coolest fashion invention to have dropped is this quirky saree which basically solves our problem. Vidya wore a black and red cotton saree, which she styled with a frilly underskirt (saving you from stumbling upon the pleats) and a usable pocket (to keep your stuff). Is this the coolest of all drapes or what? We think so too.

The handloom cotton saree is the brainchild of a homegrown brand NandiDimps and the piece is named Hamari Frida since the pocket has Frida Kahlo handcrafted on it. Plus, this statement saree is pretty affordable too. It’s priced at just INR 4k. Vidya Balan has styled it with a quirky underskirt with frill hemline which you can get from the same brand for INR 1550. Vidya has worn a black full sleeved blouse and silver earrings with the look. She has also tied a long black fabric belt around her waist. Although she has carried a red clutch, you can totally give it a pass if you can manage to fit your things in the pretty little pocket in the saree.

A while ago, designers started adding pockets in lehenga skirts and we couldn’t be happier. However, sarees still lack this feature. On the behalf of all womenkind and fashion folks, we’d like to take this moment to request all brands to incorporate pockets into our clothing, especially the specifically unmanageable ones like a saree. I mean, it’s 2021 and women still can’t slide their hands comfortably in the pockets of their sarees? Come on!
