Shark Tank-Inspired Twitter Thread Reminds Us How Successful Men Were Financially Supported By Their Wives

Living on your wife’s earnings is not regarded to be manly enough. Men who don’t have a source of income, and want to stay househusbands are looked down upon in our society. If you remember, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor’s movie Ki And Ka revolved around this same topic, but will our society ever be ready to accept this? It might always be a topic of debate, however, there are examples of some famous men who were financially supported by their wives. An informative thread on this was shared by a Twitter user recently. Taking a recent example from Shark Tank India, the user elaborated on this topic to give out some lesser-known facts about these men. It should remind us to accept a woman’s contribution in financially supporting their husband, and also that it should not be judged!

A Twitter user by the name of Richa Singh shared a thread on her account where she mentioned some famous men who started careers with their wife’s help. Our society fails to acknowledge these things, or rather does not want to but it is important to start dialogues on this. The user first mentioned Ganesh Balakrishnan who appeared on the latest season of Shark Tank India. Richa Singh highlighted that Ganesh accepted on the show that his wife made money while he only spent it. This, of course, is not frequently seen in Indian society but the participant very shyly revealed it on the show. But what’s wrong with it?

Richa Singh further went on to talk about men like Infosys owner, Narayan Murthy, and Ola’s founder Bhavish Aggarwal, who took financial help from their respective wives to build their famous multimillion empires. The user even pointed out that there are many startup owners who sought help from their spouses too. Ending the thread with a beautiful line to think about, the user wrote, “Rightly said, your career depends on the person you marry!”

It’s high time for our society to realise that the concept of breadwinners no longer is restricted to men. The standardised gender roles in terms of earnings and spending should be discarded. This is one such area where women should be seen at par with men. Similarly, men should not be shamed for not fitting into the set societal ideas of a “Perfect Man” whose job is to earn, feed and protect the wife and family.
