Viral Trend Of Men Pretending To Suffocate Sleeping Wives Makes Mockery Out Of Domestic Violence

Social media is the best place to go to find out what is trending. Be it news, or to see what new social media trends have the influencers hopped on, social media is a place for it all. But there are times when you feel people have crossed lines in the name of making content to garner likes and followers. People are blindly recreating trends on Instagram and TikTok without understanding how harmful they are. One of the recent ones is where men try to choke their wives when they are sleeping with their faces covered. This shocking trend has been recreated by many on TikTok, in the name of a joke, and it is scary how people are not seeing its implications.

A Twitter user by the username @nishat218 shared a screengrab of a video where a TikTok user Shahveer Jafry recreates the ‘choke the wife’ trend (I don’t know what else is this called). Nishat mentions how there are 41.3K likes to this video, and also went on to write about how harmful this trend is in a country like Pakistan where domestic violence is so rampant, and women get killed by their husbands in real life.

But of course, there is no dearth of stupid people on Twitter who went on to write that people should stop finding faults in everything, and should take jokes just at face value. But how is one supposed to treat videos like these as a joke? There should be a line between what is acceptable and unacceptable as humour and people seem to be crossing it every single day.

Such trends need to be reported the moment early videos on them are out. It is not funny to show you want to choke your wife when she is sleeping. This trend portrays how it is the men who are fed up who their wives and have no option but to kill them in their sleep. Yes, I know you must be thinking it sounds so horrible when it is written about but that’s what exactly it is. People should stop stooping so low to get likes and followers. At least brains should be used while creating content!
