Sonali Bendre Reveals Reality Shows Don’t Fake Emotional Stories For TRP, Says “There’s So Much Disparity In The Country”

We often see reality shows that make us emotional with the typical rags to riches story of a contestant. In most cases, this happens on these singing or dancing reality shows. These shows often garner a higher TRP because of such relatable and heartbreaking stories. And that’s also one reason why a lot of us wonder if these stories are real or not. Recently, in an interview actress Sonali Bendre opened up about the trend and shared that there is no need to create such stories because there is a huge disparity that already exists in India.

Sonali Bendre is back on television as a judge on the dance reality show Dance India Dance Li’l Masters 5 after a gap of nearly four years after she was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2018. Speaking to ETimes, the actress said that according to her experience there is so much disparity in the country that one does not need to create sob stories for TRP. Sonali Bendre said that it’s sad to hear where these kids come from while adding that reality shows give them a chance to come out of the places they’re in. She further added that due to the poverty in the country parents feel that their kids will get a better life only once they get out of the situation and it’s easy for people to comment on their situation sitting in a privileged position.

Sonali Bendre said, “But the fact is there is disparity in our country, aur woh jahan se aa rahe hain unko unke talent ke badle ye jo mil raha hai woh zaruri hai and they deserve everything that they are getting… There’s hope for them. So you don’t need to create it, it is the reality of their life.” Well, she does have a point. While we’re not a fan of all the sob stories on reality shows but the fact remains that they do provide a platform for these kids from a less privileged background to showcase their talent, grow and gain success in life at an early age. And TBH, it’s a relief to hear that these emotional, heartbreaking stories on reality shows are not made up.
