Selena Gomez’s Mother Mandy Teefey Responded To Unsolicited Weight Loss Advice On Instagram.

By  |

No matter who we are, we have all been subjected to body shaming at some point or another. Be it from family, friends or relatives at random functions that you see once a year. Body shaming on the internet, however, is on another level. While people might not be as blunt or cruel in person, they are not as ‘gracious’ online. With the option of hiding behind screens and anonymous usernames, these keyboard warriors get away with spewing a lot of damaging stuff at people. I believe that public figures and celebrities are the worst affected due to people like these. While there are many examples of such incidents, the most recent victim of this online bullying was Selena Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey.

Selena Gomez’s mother Mandy Teefey took to Instagram recently and shared some personal screenshots of someone giving her weight loss tips. This was after she and Selena posted a picture of the cover of Entrepreneur magazine which features Selena, Mandy and Daniella Pierson.

Mandy Teefey posted the cover 3 days ago and captioned it, “Welcome to Wondermind! The first mental fitness ecosystem. I’ve battled mental health since I was child and took me decades to realize with the right support and tools I can live with my ADHD and work through my trauma. So, we wanted to create an ecosystem for anybody and everybody to have access to these tools and celebrate their individuality!! Let’s wondermind!! XO @officialwondermind www.Wondermind.com”

In the personal screenshots she uploaded to her Instagram, Mandy Teefey replied saying, “I wasn’t ever going to discuss this, but I knew when the Entrepreneur cover came out comments on my weight were going to be DM’d to me. I just posted a polite offer instead of the name calling. But, I was out of the hospital for maybe 3 1/2 weeks from double pneumonia. I was told I had days to live. I had miracle Drs and love from my family and friends to keep me going. I fought. The Drs fought and I was one of the few who made it out. I gained 60lbs plus inflammation from the infection. I never gave up on myself or Wondermind coming to reality. I had zero business to be at a photo shoot. So, yesterday was a beautiful day for many reasons filled with personal attacks. I’m healthy and I will work on myself at my pace. It’s a miracle I am here and could careless if that means I’m a 16 instead of an 8. Much love to everyone. Let’s Wondermind!!! XO picture one was two days to live, picture two the day I was released.”

It is so stupid that people not only feel the entitlement to comment upon someone else’s body but also give unsolicited advice on it. Moreover, you never know what someone might have gone through in their life. It is beyond me while people cannot be kinder and more compassionate towards one another rather than throwing nasty comments and hurting people over something as insignificant as their weight.
