Samantha Ruth Prabhu Says OTT Platforms Made Her Realise She’s Done Playing The Cute Girl In Movies
When we talk about the roles female actors get to play in movies, more often than not, they are the roles of a cute damsel in distress roles. They usually don’t end up adding anything new or more to the plot and are just playing a character that could have easily been written off. Having said this, I know that things are changing in the film industry and one of the reasons behind this change is that actresses themselves are not looking to do such roles. In fact, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is one of them who came out and said that OTT platforms made her realise she’s tired of playing the good, cute girl in movies and wants to do roles that have more depth.
In a recent interview, Samantha Ruth Prabhu said that she is tired of playing a cute girl in every other film and believes that she is not capable of doing that anymore. And this change in her is brought due to the fact that OTT platforms have broken the stereotype.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu made her debut in the web series with Family Man that has earned her quite the reputation. Talking about it, she confesses that she never thought she would be a part of a web series but that changed with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s show.
While talking about the reason she kept her distance from Bollywood was the fact that she was still finding her footing in the South and gained a lot of confidence in only the last two years. Samantha Prabhu said that in the last two years she has become more accepting and confident of new challenges.

As per reports, when asked whether she believes that OTT platforms have helped eradicate some of the stereotypes that are attached to actors from various industries, Samantha Ruth Prabhu said, “Yes, for sure. I don’t think I would get a role as dark and layered as Raji in my recent web show, in a commercial film. I would never have had that chance. Because of OTT platforms, risky, unique, varied, interesting, and provocative roles have an audience. I believe that this has opened up the playfield for actors who were typecast in the past. I was tired of playing the cute girl in every other film, and I believe I am not capable of doing that anymore. Actors like me are capable of a lot more and can show that when an opportunity presents itself.”
Honestly, I agree with her when it comes to OTT platforms erasing some of the stereotypes. Ever since the onset of OTT platforms, we’ve seen a lot of artists have got the opportunity to explore their potential, better content, and not to mention some mind-blowing performances. All of this, according to me, adds to the charm of these platforms.
