Priyanka Chopra Talks About Her Botched Plastic Surgery And An Obscene Demand In Her Memoir ‘Unfinished’. We Love Her Honesty
Who can ever get tired of some juicy Bollywood goss? Not me. I live for that shit. Who’s dating who, who got replaced in a movie (cuz nepotism) and who compared herself to Meryl Streep; I mean, some of this tittle-tattle is more entertaining than their movies itself. NGL, I would actually kill to be a part of that Kapoor-Johar whatsapp group where they exchange such gossip on a daily basis. However, more than hearsay, I like to believe when these stories come from the horse’s mouth. You know, when a movie star dishes the dirt? Well, Priyanka Chopra’s memoir Unfinished that hit the shelves this Tuesday is full of such stories and revelations about herself and of course, the whole big Bollywood family and its secrets. Did you know she once hid her high school boyfriend, only to be busted by her aunt who snitched to her mom? Yeah, Indian relatives, I tell you!
PeeCee has opened up about her fashion fails, being bullied as a kid, facing misogyny in showbiz in her first book. She has penned down the controversies and addressed the rumours surrounding her which she never spoke about earlier. One of which is her botched nose surgery, post which her career suffered and the press gave her the tag of ‘Plastic Chopra’. The surgery was intended to remove a polyp from her nasal cavity but due to the doctor’s negligence who accidentally shaved the bridge of her nose, she ended up with a visibly different appearance.
She wrote, “I felt devastated and hopeless. Every time I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back at me, and I didn’t think my sense of self or my self-esteem would ever recover from the blow.” She also admitted to have gotten “several corrective surgeries” but she is content with how she looks, even if it’s slightly different. “Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I’ve made peace with this slightly different me…I’m just like everyone else: I look at myself in the mirror and think maybe I can lose a little weight; I think maybe I can work out a little more. But I’m also content. This is my face. This is my body. I might be flawed, but I am me,” she wrote.

Apart from her this she also has been unabashedly vocal about the misogyny and biases she faced in the industry. She talked about how a director objectifiied her her and after assessing her, suggested she get a boob job and get her butt cushioned and jaw fixed if she wanted to become an actress. She recently also revealed that for a seductive song sequence, a director asked her to strip down to her panties, which she decided to opt out of because she found it unacceptable. She wrote, “The director suggested I speak to my stylist, so I called him and briefly explained the situation, then passed the phone to the director. Standing right in front of me, the director said: ‘Jo bhi ho, chaddiyan dikhni chahiyen. Nahi toh log picture kyon dekhne aayenge?’ which translates to ‘whatever happens, panties should be seen. Otherwise, why would people come to watch the movie?’”
Talking about why she decided to speak on these and spilled the nasty deets now, She told in an interview, “I’m a woman in the entertainment business, which is kind of patriarchal, I had to be very tough. When entertainers show their weakness, people enjoy pulling you down. I learnt to keep my walls up. I kept them up, did my job and didn’t talk about the things I overcame. I’m much older and self-assured now, which makes it easier to discuss things from the past. This book is not me offering any form of clarification. It’s a story of my life from my eyes.”
We love how she is so vocal about the wrongdoings and the nasty side of the entertainment industry in her book. Plus, she addressed the incidents very personal to her and opened up about how she overcame them pretty unapologetically and honestly. Her book will be an interesting read for sure.
