Mansplaining At Work Places Could Do Immense Harm To Women’s Careers, Reveals Study

Do you get annoyed when a man tries to explain something with an air of superiority even if that does not come under his expertise, yes, that’s what is called Mansplaining! Now, this term is quite frequently used in today’s world, nevertheless, men have been doing it for quite a long. And it’s not just a word or a frequent phenomenon, it can actually affect a woman’s confidence, especially in workplaces. Some surprising results were found in research conducted on the effects of mansplaining in workplaces, and it should not go unnoticed.

It was a joint study by researchers from Colorado University and Michigan State University in which a total of 128 participants were selected. In this study, two actors, male and female read out a script to the participants. What the researchers noticed was that the female participants became a little uncomfortable when the man read the script. Also, it was not the first time they were hearing such a patronising way of explaining by a man.

As per the reports, the study also revealed that women in workspaces kind of become silent after going through continuous experiences of mansplaining. They even start questioning their abilities at the workplace. But on the other hand. No such change in behaviour or attitude was noticed in the male participants of the study, as per the news.

More shocking observations that were given out in this study were that this effect was not just for a brief period of time, but even in the long-term careers of women, mansplaining could do immense harm. Since female workers start doubting their work, proficiency, skills and abilities, they don’t think themselves worthy enough for pay raises, or even companies offering them more salary.

This is really an eye-opening study and should be definitely considered in corporate workplaces. Men can be casual in their “Mansplaining” and well, in most cases, they even fail to accept or realise that, but here, it’s again the women who suffer. Therefore, there should be enough steps taken at the workplace to ensure that female employees are not suffering from the deeper effects of mansplaining.
