This Actor Refused To Be A Part Of Layer’r Shot Ad Calling It “Derogatory”. He’s The Kind Of Feminist Ally We Need!

The recently released ad by Layer’r Shot received heavy criticism for normalising a gang-rape culture through it. The ad was unacceptable and clearly put forth a misogynistic mindset. It was shameful of everyone who decided to be a part of this pathetic ad. However, the story of an actor is being circulated on the internet who refused to associate himself with this ad. The story of the actor was shared by his friend who belongs to the same industry.

The actor named Saurabh Verma’s story was shared on the internet by his friend Abbas Mirza, a senior creative director at a digital marketing agency. Abbas Mirza took to his Linkedin profile to share the story. Mirza wrote that during a conversation with his close actor friend Saurabh Verma, he got to know that even Saurabh was approached to audition for the chauvinistic deodorant ads, which were not two but three. However, after reading the script, Saurabh suggested that it be changed. But, because the ad’s creators didn’t pay attention to him, he decided to disengage himself from the brand and turned it down.

Abbas Mirza also shared a screenshot of the conversation that happened between Saurabh and the ad representatives. In the image, Saurabh can be seen politely declining the offer while calling it “demeaning” and “derogatory” towards women. He also adds that he has never seen such an advertisement before and wishes to skip it. Sharing this Abbas Mirza also wrote that if others who were a part of the project also had the guts to reject it, the ads would not have been seen.

It is indeed a commendable step by Saurabh Verma to have the right conscience of not only ensuring to not associate with such a project but also having the courage to ask for changes in the script first.
