Katy Perry Having No Time To Shave Her Legs Is Every New Mom. And It’s Practicality Over Vanity

Katy Perry Having No Time To Shave Her Legs Is Every New Mom. And It’s Practicality Over Vanity

Celebrity or not, moms everywhere are exactly the same. The struggles for a new mom are also no different. The initial few months are spent on figuring out what’s best for the child, dealing with postpartum stress and million hair and skin issues, and struggling to squeeze some time for themselves. They have little to no time for self care and even the littlest things like brushing hair or shaving legs seems like a pipe dream. That’s what happens to every new mom, and one of them, a celebrity,  just admitted to it on television. On an episode of American Idol, singer and judge of the show Katy Perry confessed to having given up shaving her legs since she welcomed her daughter Daisy in August last year.

It was after a contestant Cassandra Coleman’s hair-raising performance that Katy Perry said, “Your voice is a spiritual experience. It is other worldly, angelic. As a new mother I don’t have very much time, so I’ve quit shaving my legs. But when you sang, the hair on my legs grew an inch an a half!” She even showed off her legs, and goosebumps, by putting them on the table for us to have a closer look. Honestly, we aren’t surprised. Having a child does that to you. Your priorities change and shaving your legs is the last thing on your mind when your child is howling in one corner of the room while you are handling work on the other.

Celebrities are often expected to be perfect mothers and look as flawless off-screen as they seem on-screen but the truth is they are just like us. They are real women who  don’t really get the time to look on fleek between juggling work and taking care of their baby. And that’s okay. In fact, whenever celebrity moms like Katy Perry get candid about her struggles like these, it only normalises women being cavalier about grooming especially when they are new moms. I mean, it only makes sense. With a baby to cradle and being a judge on the singing show, who even cares if her legs are shaved or not.

Katy Perry has spoken about how her life changed after giving birth and the only thing she really cares about now is being a mom. She said on an Instagram live, “I think that you realize that when you become a mother…you just have to focus on being a mom, And it’s not because you don’t love other people, it’s not because of anything besides you just want to be a great mom…So a lot of stuff falls away when you become a mom and it is the best job in the world.”

Moms who can manage to take out some time to indulge in self care while they have a toddler or an infant are really something and it’s good for them. However, Katy Perry makes a strong case for not caring for your appearance and more importantly what the whole world thinks, by confessing she has foregone the most basic grooming habit, shaving! We think it’s amazing! She’s real, relatable and pretty badass!
