Karan Johar Accused Of Promoting Classism In New IITIIMShaadi Advertisement

Every time I think that I have seen everything there is to see on the internet, I am caught off guard by something new which manages to surprise me. Such was my reaction when I watched the advertisement by matrimonial website shaadi.com featuring Karan Johar who was endorsing a new website called IITIIMShaadi.com. The website claims to be exclusively for the alumni of the top universities and colleges of India to find a match they are mentally compatible with. The internet has not taken very kindly to this as the comment section is filled with how nonsensical this idea is.

A short while ago, Karan Johar uploaded an advertisement for Shaadi.com which is exclusive for the alumni of IIT, IIM and the other major universities in India. The need for this website was cited that highly educated people look for mental compatibility in marriage and hence having a website where they can meet and interact with “like-minded” people who are alumni as well. The caption read, “A matrimonial platform like no other – IITIIMShaadi.com! And I’m super excited to see some ‘real’ love come to life, not just reel! If you are looking for your life partner. They invite alumni of the top 10-15 colleges from all fields to register and find a match amongst each other! @iitiimshaadi__ puts it well – Alma Mater Matters #iitiimshaadi #ad”

The comments that followed under the advertisement were ruthless as they accused KJo of promoting classism. They also said that mental compatibility goes beyond mere educational background and depends on a lot of things. And being from a prestigious university doesn’t mean that one can’t be compatible with others, which I personally agree with. Check out what people had to say to Karan Johar:

Oof! The blatant ruthlessness in the comment section is on a different level. However, KJo had it coming. After his reputation of only supporting star kids and nepotism, an endorsement like this isn’t going to be favourable, to say the least.
