Reporting on so-called ‘viral MMS’ sometimes feels like an isolated incident, a disturbing but distant corner of the internet. And after writing about case after case, the trend feels like a relentless loop. A new name, a new person’s identity dragged into speculation by the internet, and within hours, the damage is done, whether the content is real, AI-generated or entirely fabricated, no one cares. Here’s our opinion on the same.

About The Rise In So-Called ‘Leaked MMS Viral Videos’

AI-manipulated clips and deepfakes have blurred the lines between fiction and reality dangerously far. Anyone with basic tools and false intent can create convincing fake content, easily attach it to a real person, and let the internet do the rest. After covering some unfortunate cases like that of a famous content creator named Payal Gaming, who found herself in the midst of a viral storm over a video she wasn’t even related to.

The aftermath is not just about clearing one’s name; it’s about dealing with anxiety, trolling, and unforeseen permanent damage to one’s public image. The emotional toll is rarely visible. What many fail to understand is that engaging with such content, even out of curiosity, can have legal consequences under laws like the IT Act 2000 and provisions of the Indian Penal Code, which penalise the publishing or transmission of obscene material and violation of privacy. It’s no longer just about some ‘leaked videos,’ but also stunts like revenge p*rn, where intimate content is shared without consent, often by someone the victim once trusted.

This continues to be one of the most dangerous forms of online abuse, alongside many AI-manipulated clips and deepfakes, where people who have never been in such situations can be targeted and ‘inserted’ into fabricated content. After reporting such cases repeatedly, what disturbed us the most is how normalised the curiosity around them has become. These are not just ‘viral moments,’ but violations layered with both technological abuse and public insensitivity.
