Shrivalli Rashmikaa Shares How She Overcame Challenges As Female Tennis Player In India

Q. You’re smashing it in a sport where women often fight for the spotlight. What’s one obstacle you faced and how does it feel to prove the haters wrong?

A: “One of the toughest obstacles was dealing with doubts—both from outside and sometimes even within myself—about whether I could succeed at the highest level. There were moments when people questioned my ability or felt I didn’t belong on the big stage. Overcoming those doubts with consistent hard work and belief in myself has been very fulfilling. It’s not about proving haters wrong, but about proving to myself that persistence and dedication can take you far.”

Q. Many female athletes in India face issues like less funding or media attention compared to men. Have you seen this in tennis, and how do you think it can be fixed?

A: “Yes, this is something I’ve observed in tennis as well. The support and visibility for women are still not on par with men, which often makes the journey tougher. I think the solution lies in consistent media coverage for women’s matches, creating equal opportunities for sponsorships, and encouraging more platforms that highlight female athletes. When young girls see women being celebrated equally, it gives them confidence to dream bigger.”
