‘Archie’ Comics CEO Expresses Excitement About Zoya Akhtar Directing ‘The Archies’
A while back, I wrote an opinion piece on the fact that people were already being overly critical and sceptical of Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming movie called The Archies based on the infamous Archie Comics. Citizens of the internet were salty because the movie cast is full of star kids which resulted in another boycott on Twitter. However, I am super excited to see what the movie has in store for all of us and how well they all do. And similar to me, the CEO of Archie Comics, Jon Goldwater, has expressed that he was excited for Zoya Akhtar to take up the comics for her movie.

Jon Goldwater talked about Archie Comics and how iconic it has been since 1941. He said that he wanted to do something in India for many years and when he found out that it was Zoya Akhtar who wanted to take up this project he thought, “Oh my God, we have to try to make this happen.” Zoya Akhtar remarked that being asked to create an Indian adaptation and the first movie for the incredibly well-known Archies property has been an amazing honour for her. This is a “surreal experience” as she grew up reading Archie Comics. Zoya said that bringing these adored characters to a new generation while preserving the nostalgia of the original comic was incredibly thrilling. She said that she can’t wait to take the audience to the fantastical town of Riverdale, which they have situated in the Anglo-Indian neighbourhood of India.

The renowned Archies gang is at the centre of the movie, which masterfully captures the nascent optimism, enthusiasm, and energy of the 1960s. It promises to appeal to people of all ages while being a musical experience. The Archies is a film directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Tiger Baby, Graphic India, and Archie Comics, starring Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Yuvraj Menda, Agastya Nanda, and Vedang Raina in pivotal parts.
