What To Watch This Week Of June 27 – July 3: ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’, ‘Stranger Things S4, Vol 2’, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’

Every coin has two sides- one of the most rewarding aspects that the coronavirus pandemic brought with it was the popularity of OTT platforms. The platforms were although already a big hit amongst the audience even pre-covid, many creators were still hesitant about it. Though, as watch parties increased, gradually we now have most of the leading series available on these platforms. A lot of great titles like Minions: The Rise of Gru, Stranger Things S4, Vol 2, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Only Murders In The Building Season 2 are coming out this week. After all, weekends are not the same without these subscriptions and here is the list of options available to get ‘get your watch on’ this weekend to make it a fantastic one.

What To Watch This Weekend

1. Only Murders In The Building (Disney+)

The wait is over for the second season of adventures of the unlikely trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez). The second season has been available since 28th June on Hulu. The season plays to the strength of the series as it deepens the suspense so far created. It is a delight to watch the trio uncover another murder mystery surrounding their neighbour along with the spice added by cameos like those of Amy Schumer herself.

Episodes 1 and 2 are already out, and the rest are to follow weekly.

2. Minions: The Rise Of Gru (Theatres) 

If you are planning to experience the joy of watching a movie in the theatre, then go for Minions: The Rise of Gru. The small, cute, and cheerful minions are back to put a smile across your face. The storyline comprises the story of Gru’s budding super-villainy and leads you in splits with its Looney Tunes-inspired gibberish spouters. This is a must-watch with an adorable mini-Gru running about as ‘Mini boss’.

This despicably adorable ride drops in cinemas on July 1, 2022.

3. The Terminal List (Amazon Prime)

Chris Patt offers yet another power-packed and thrilling experience as James Reece in this series based on the best-selling novel by Jack Carr, The Terminal List. After Reece’s entire platoon of Navy SEALs is ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission, he returns home to realize that he has conflicting memories of the event which makes him doubt himself but later he discovers the work of dark forces in play.

The Terminal List arrives on Prime Video on July 1, 2022.

4. Stranger Things Season 4, Vol 2 (Netflix)

One of the most-watched Netflix series is back with Season 4 Volume 2 from Friday, July 1. This volume of the blockbuster series will comprise 2 episodes that are full* feature film-lengths (85 minutes and 2.5 hours, respectively). It consists of two episodes called “Chapter Eight: Papa” and “Chapter Nine: The Piggyback,” respectively. The producers promise more complexity, more connections, and an over-the-top experience for the viewers.

5. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (Theatres) 

A biopic written and acted by R.Madhavan is something not to miss. The story is about an ISRO Scientist Nambi Narayanan who was framed for being a spy and arrested in 1994. Which was ironic to his actual mission of making India more efficient in space technology. He is falsely implicated in leaking some vital secrets on defence to two of the alleged Maldivian intelligence officers. The movie was premiered at the 75th Cannes International Film Festival. It would be available on Amazon prime and in theatres and looks like a good movie to watch out for.

Rocketry arrives in cinemas on July 1, 2022.

6. Om (Theatres) 

This Bollywood movie is about a special Para commando officer who gets in an accident and realises his mission was to save his country.The movie stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjana Sanghi in the lead roles.It is set to release on 1 July 2022 and the fans have been missing them on the screen so, this is an experience that we’ve been waiting for. Furthermore, the emotional and nationalism angles in the movie merge to create the perfect blend for us to feast our eyes on.

Om arrives, guns blazing, in theatres on July 1, 2022.

7. Beauty (Netflix)

Becoming popular is a dream that is one of the hardest things to achieve and not everyone gets there, but this movie featuring Emmy-winner and Westworld actress Lena Waithe is definitely headed in that direction. Set in the 1980s, this drama covers the story of Beauty, a talented singer who is working hard to make it in the entertainment industry but soon, she realises that stardom isn’t as fun and easy as it looks.

Beauty drops on Netflix on June 29, 2022.

On a side note, the exciting series, The Boys Season 3 Episode 7 is airing this week, and you can expect Soldier Boy to go wreck new havoc as she gets closer to a face-off with Homelander. In fact, inside info, this episode is going to be quite the shocker!
