Urmila Matondkar Supports Shah Rukh Khan Amidst Viral ‘Spitting’ Video: “We’ve Deteriorated So Much As A Society”

Let’s all agree on one thing: our country is a tad bit dramatic. Like the smallest things are misinterpreted and taken out of context and create unnecessary drama and controversy. A similar thing happened with Shah Rukh Khan when a video of him from late singer’s Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral went viral. However, Urmila Matondkar came to his defence and spoke about the whole incident.

Shah Rukh Khan’s caused a lot of uproar amongst netizens after a video of him praying, removing his mask for a bit and allegedly “spitting” on Lata Mangeshkar’s mortal remains went viral. However, the myth was busted when it came up that he was actually blowing air on her remains as is a custom in Islam to ward off evil spirits.

Actress turned politician and social worker Urmila Matondkar came to SRK’s defence over the controversy (which wasn’t even a controversy). According to sources she said, “As a society, we have deteriorated so much that we think praying is spitting. You are talking about an actor who has represented the country on various international platforms. Politics has reached such low levels and it’s really sad.” I can’t help but agree with her.

However, while there were many that unnecessarily criticised Shah Rukh Khan, many also came to his defence and praised him for being so secular in nature. I also believe that it was super ignorant of people to jump the gun and assume the worse of a man who has genuinely made a name for himself and popularised India in the mainstream media all over the world. Urmila Matondkar coming to support him was something I can completely get behind and support.
